Chiles Volcanic Activity

Chile is prone to volcanic activity due to the many volcanoes within Chile and the many surrounding the nation. There are 2,000 volcanoes in chile, they are stratovolcanoes . Experts believe that 500 volcanoes are active. 60 Volcanoes have erupted in the last 450 years and more are believed  to erupt in the future according to experts. Chile is home to two of the most active volcanoes in South America ; the Villarica and Llaima.

Volcanic eruptions are unavoidable, therefore the nation has constructed plans to help the people of chile in the case of a volcanic eruption. Chile has created a well funded volcanic monitoring and hazard assessment program known as the Red Nacional de Vigilancia Volcanica ( RNVV). With well conducted research and proper monitoring the damage expected of volcanic eruptions can be minimized. 

The last volcanic eruption in Chile was in 2015. The Villarica which erupted and it will frequently expected to do so. In 2015, 30 families who lived in the radius were evacuated and the area was blocked with the help of proper monitoring of the volcanic activity.

  1. That's interesting I knew Chile was known to have a lot of volcanos but I didn't know there was 2,000 and is home to two of the most active volcanos in south America.
