Post 2// Chiles Seismicity

Hello,

Chile lies on top of the South American plate. To the west of Chile is the Nazca plate, the Nazca plate  connects to the Pacific plate through the pacific ocean. Chile is surrounded by many plates,  According to an article written by Vision of Humanity, Chile is a country that is very prone to earthquakes. Chile has worked to combat the effects of earthquakes by working with the International Platform for Reducing Earthquake Disaster also known as the IPRED. The IPRED is an organization that conducts research within the field of seismology. They have also focused their research on earthquake  engineering to minimize the damage caused by earthquakes on the houses and buildings in Chile.

  1. Hi Jassibe!
My country Japan also focuses a lot on ways to improve their homes and buildings to reduce the damage caused by the earthquakes! Considering that Japan is on and/or near 4 of the major tectonic plates, this makes Japan one of the most seismic places in the world so they definitely have to find ways to survive their big earthquakes. Great work on your post!

  2. Hello Jassibe:)
Similar to my country Peru also is near the Nazca plate! When looking into the amount of earthquakes that happened in the area it was interesting to see that in Chile many significant earthquakes have occurred. It is good to know they understand they are in a dangerous area and need to take precautions for others.
